Warmth creates a welcoming mood throughout a home. When you feel the heat from a fireplace or watch a flickering candle, you feel more cozy. Down throw blankets add a touch of soft, insulated comfort to all your living nooks. Create a romantic mood on Valentine’s Day by adding a couple of down throw blankets to your living room decorating scheme.

While often romance lands in the bedroom, the seduction process usually begins in a common area of the house. Set up your living room with a cushioned sofa and several down throw blankets. Play relaxing music in the background, such as easy listening or jazz, for minimal distractions. Light a few scented candles for fragrance and low lighting. Serve wine with decorative flutes and strawberries with chocolate dip. Snuggle up under the down to talk, sip wine and nibble together. The warmth and comfort of cuddling under the down will bring your Valentine’s Day to the next romantic level.

If you’re looking for more love on Valentine’s Day or just want to show that special someone a memorable time, decorate your living room with inviting down throw blankets.

When you snuggle with that special someone for Valentine’s Day, you usually head for the comfort of the bedroom. A puffy down comforter keeps you warm while you watch television or go to sleep. But when you cozy up under the covers, you want the softest bedding sheets possible.

I prefer the breathable softness of pure Egyptian cotton bedding sheets. World famous for its comfort and quality, I purchased a set right before February 14th last year. I decided to really make the evening special. I ran a bubble bath for two and lit plenty of scented candles leading from the bathroom to the bedroom. The craft store sold scented silk rose petals, which I scattered all over the bathtub and bed. My husband was amazed, impressed and definitely feeling romantic.

With soft jazz music in the background, we sipped wine from flutes and slipped under the covers together. My husband immediately noticed the difference and asked, “Wow are these new sheets? They’re so soft!” I told him they were Egyptian cotton and he said to never buy anything else. Of course the rest of our evening together is completely confidential…but it all started thanks to those sensual, high end Egyptian cotton bedding sheets!

With Valentine’s Day just a couple of weeks away, it’s already time to think about what to do for that special someone.  Why not give them a gift that keeps on giving all year long - a luxurious down bedding set.

Include a posh down comforter, soft bedding sheets and a puffy down pillow in the Valentine’s Day package.  Imagine how delighted that special someone will be when they see you treated them to a beautiful new down bedding set.  Get creative and include a few other loving essentials to ensure you have the most passionate Valentine’s Day ever.

Along with the down bedding set, give your lover a box of gourmet chocolates and a bottle of quality champagne.  If you are both eating healthy, give your Valentine chocolate covered strawberries and flavored seltzer.   Add a soft pair of silk pajamas and you know what will happen next.  Plenty of eating, drinking, snuggling and cuddling will occur under that new down comforter.

If your Valentine’s Day plans fell short in the past, make it up to that special someone this year with an evening of love centered around a new fashion bedding set.   Get down with your Valentine for loving memories that will last forever.

Staying Warm at Home

Who wouldn’t like to carry the warmth of their down comforter with them while they’re not in bed?  With a down throw, you can bring the comfort of your bed with you wherever you go.  Whether it’s curling up on the couch for a movie, appreciating the outdoors on a camping trip, or for those longer road trips, a down throw is ideal for all kinds of situations.  They’re also great for holding babies and newborns, though do be careful because sometimes the blankets become too hot!

Down throws are a bit less common than the more popular down comforters, but they’re often available in bedding stores and online.  Because down throws are made of goose down, they’re more expensive than your traditional fleece blanket, but they’ll last a long time and are well worth the investment.

Soft Sleeping Solutions

Who doesn’t love the comfort of their pillow? It cradles your head and allows you to fall asleep enveloped in softness.  With a pillowtop featherbed, your whole body can be supported by a pillow-like surface, allowing you to fall asleep in comfort and warmth.  Featherbeds are placed on top of the mattress but beneath the sheets.  The sheets are then pulled over the featherbed, giving you an extra layer of softness. Sleeping on a featherbed will allow you to experience a deeper sleep and also feel more energized when you wake up in the morning.  Much of the reason people experience tiredness and stiffness in the morning can be attributed to a mattress that doesn’t support their body.  With a feather bed, you’re guaranteed to sleep better, and wake up more refreshed.

bamboo-2.JPG As soft as cashmere, as smooth as silk . . . bamboo sheets are today’s luxury bedding choice.  It seems strange to those who haven’t slept on bamboo sheets or tried other bamboo fabric products, but when bamboo grass is spun into fabric, it is quite literally “smooth as silk”.  People all over the world are switching from cotton to bamboo sheets and bedding.  Once you try it, you’ll never go back.  Why bamboo?  For starters, did you know that bamboo sheets are actually temperature-regulating?  Bamboo fabric stays naturally cool in summer and warm in winter, making it the perfect choice for sheets. And let’s not forget that bamboo is naturally antibacterial and allergen-free. What more could a person ask for? But Bamboo sheets aren’t just heavenly to sleep on.  They are made of an easily renewable natural resource. Isn’t that amazing!  Bamboo plants can grow up to a foot a day.  Another interesting feature of bamboo forests is that they can grow more densely than hardwood forests - 40% more.  Bamboo doesn’t need pesticides and other chemicals, making it a naturally organic product. Think you’re doing the environment a favor by eating organic foods?  Your clothes, sheets, towels, and other textiles likely have more of an impact.  Bamboo sheets are also the vegan/animal friendly choice for luxury - unlike silk or cashmere.  This means you can sleep peacefully knowing no animals were harmed for you to sleep on your comfy bamboo sheets.

Down bedding is warm, soft and luxurious.  Functional and attractive, a down comforter is the perfect way to decorate your bed. But why do some down comforters look different than others?  Does it matter which type you choose?

Basically speaking, down comforters have two different types of construction - sewn-through and baffled.  A sewn-through down comforter has two outer layers of fabric that are stitched together in a quilted pattern.  Often sewn-through construction is used for lightweight down comforters intended for spring and summer use.  This construction helps keep the down from shifting around throughout the comforter though some movement does occur.  When the down shifts, shaking out the blanket helps put everything back in place.

A baffled down comforter is constructed with fabric walls sewn between the bottom and top of the cover.  The down will not shift for full lost so your comforter is highly insulated.  A top quality baffled down comforter will not have any cold spots because there is no shifting.  Maintaining baffled down comforters is a breeze because you do not need to move around the fill or shake them out often. The process of creating a baffled down comforter is time-consuming so typically these bed coverings are more expensive.  Many find baffled down comforters are worth the price because they are simple to maintain and you never deal with cold patches.

Whether you choose baffled or sewn-through, you will be toasty and happy under a beautiful down comforter.

In today’s economy, few people have extra money for luxuries.  When your furniture starts to show signs of wear and tear, it can get costly to replace.  Instead of buying a new sofa or loveseat because of a worn cushion or a torn back, consider hiding the offending area with a plush, warm down throw blanket.

Using a down throw blanket on a seat cushion or tossed casually over the top of a sofa or chair looks natural.  After all, many people snuggle under a down throw while they read or watch television in the evenings.  A down throw blanket can also camouflage a multitude of imperfections.

Did your little ones doodle on the chair arm with a permanent marker?  Cover it up with a down thrown blanket.  Does your husband come home from work and fail to change his dirty work trousers before he sits on your pale couch cushions?  Cover the offending spot with a colorful down throw.  Is your cat prone to using the back of your sofa as a scratching post?  Before company comes, cover it up with a down throw blanket.

When everyone leaves, you can use the down throw blanket for your own comfort.  Extend the life of your furniture by using  a down throw blanket to hide imperfections.

Cotton bedding and sheets are the perfect compliment to your luxurious down comforters.  There are different types of cotton sheets to suit every taste and budget.

Cotton itself is softer than a blend with polyester.  It also breathes better so you don’t perspire as much.  The feel of cotton is cool and smooth against your skin.  When you choose 100 percent cotton it is the softest and most breathable for a comfortable sleep throughout the night.

For the ultimate luxury, you can choose the best cotton the world for your sheets.  Egyptian cotton is the finest you can get.  It is cultivated in the Nile River Valley in Egypt where ideal growing conditions exist.  Egyptian cotton has the strongest, longest fibers and it used in the highest quality linens.

In the winter, cotton flannel is a toasty, soft choice.    This is a vigorously brushed cotton that feels fuzzy to the touch.  The comfortable warmth of flannel sheets on a chilly night is unsurpassed by any other type of sheets.

Cotton sheets and bedding are perfect for all seasons.  Bring practicality and beauty together with down comforters and cotton sheets on your beds.

Now the first week of the New Year is here, everyone is back to their regular routine. After having time to ourselves to relax under a down blanket all day, we all had to return to work or school with our New Year’s resolutions in mind. My favorite resolution is to spend more time sleeping.

Part of the reason people lose productivity and focus is a lack of sleep. If you only spend three or four hours sleeping every night, you are doing a disservice to your body and mind. When I got a down feather bed and warm down comforter, it was easier to spend more time in bed. The softness beneath my body was totally relaxing. The cozy warmth of a down comforter above me keeps me toasty even on the coldest winter night.

Now that the first workday of the New Year is done, I plan to relax in my down bedding with a soothing cup of chai tea and my favorite romance novel. After about an hour, I’m sure to feel happy and drowsy enough to slip into a deep slumber. Thanks to my soft down bedding, I think it will be quite easy to keep my New Year’s resolution of getting more sleep.
