Down Comforter Bedding
Down comforters equal good night sleep.Archive for December, 2008

Millions of Americans suffer from pain in their upper and lower neck. This is caused by dozens of different factors, including but not limited to: stress, excessive lifting, previous injury, or even an uncomfortable bed. Regardless of the cause of the neck pain, the methods to relieve the pain are quite similar. For a simple fix, you might consider purchasing a down pillow which will help you to cradle and support your neck, you might also consider a water bed or foam mattress that will help to align your spine while you sleep. It’s also often pertinent to practice exercises that will relieve the pain; a physical therapist can make some recommendations or even a personal trainer.
You will be surprised how much more energetic you feel with your neck pain gone. You’ll wake up feeling more refreshed and ready to take on the day, and you’ll fall asleep at night more easily as well.

When people think of goose down, often images of comforters, sleeping bags, or sometimes pillows come to mind. However, goose down can also be used to make warm garments or standard throw blankets. With a goose down jacket, you’re sure to stay warm even in the coldest weather, and should the jacket become wet, goose down also dries out much faster than fleece or standard clothing insulators. For those evenings spent on the couch with a loved one, a down blanket is sure to keep both of you toasty warm and allow for an intimate moment. In addition, down blankets are also great for camping, traveling, or vacationing since they’re warm and can be compressed into a small space.
Remember that although these are a few other uses of goose down, a down bedding set is quite possibly the easiest way to guarantee a better night’s sleep!
Every year it gets more difficult to decide what to put under the Christmas tree. When my children were smaller, it was simple. All we had to do was go to the toy store, grab a few boxes to wrap and pile them under the tree. A trip to the dollar store gave us all the goodies we needed for the children’s stockings. Now that our kids are teens, they want bigger, better stuff.
But what do you get for the teen that has everything? From a laptop to a flat screen television to an iPod, our teens have it all. I decided to purchase fluffy, luxurious down bedding to wrap up and put under the tree for everyone. After all, our teens will soon be going off to college and will need warm, homey down bedding to keep them cozy while they are away from home.
Everyone was so excited when they woke up and saw the huge packages in fancy wrapping under the Christmas tree. As my husband and kids tore through the packages, they were thrilled to discover decadent down bedding. For years to come, my family will remember this Christmas every time they snuggle up in their comfortable, colorful down bedding.
When you purchase a down comforter, you often hear about the fill, but what does that mean? The fill power is the space that one ounce of down fills. The space is measured in cubic inches. The higher the fill power, the better the quality of the down comforter.
To make down with higher fill power, large clusters of down are used from mature geese. The strong clusters fill up more space with less weight. As a result, the down comforter is even more durable and breathable for total comfort.
So what type of fill power should you look for? Basically speaking, a 500 file power is considered quite good. A comforter with fill power of 500 to 550 is perfect for use all year round in moderate climate conditions. This light coverage works well for many.
For a middle of the road option, fill power of 550 to 600 is ideal for all climate conditions. People with all different sleep preferences find this fill power suitable for all seasons.
Finally, if you live in a cold climate or get chilly quickly, choose a down comforter with fill power between 600 to 650 or more. You will be completely cozy and warm with this higher level of fill power.
Consider your room temperature, climate and sleep preferences when choosing the fill power of your down comforter.
Are you getting ready to finally purchase a soft, warm down comforter? It gets confusing when you hear about different types of down and feathers. What is the difference and does it really matter when it comes to insulation and durability?
Down and feathers are two different things. Down is the insulation beneath the feathers to keep a bird warm. Feathers are flat and have quills. On the other hand, down is lighter than feathers and more flexible because there are no quills. Down is superior because of its insular capabilities with no quills. Goose down is stronger and has more fill than duck down.
Down is the most effective insulator on the planet today. During cold months, a down comforter or blanket will keep you toasty warm. If you use a down comforter during the warmer months, it actually helps to keep you cool. Because of this, down is perfect to use all year round. From freezing cold snowy winter eves to cool summer nights, down is the perfect insulating blanket.
When compared to synthetics, down is four times more effective in offering thermal efficiency. Further, down is ten times more durable than synthetic materials. No matter what the season, down comforters are beautiful, comfortable and last for years.
Are you having guests over for Christmas to share all the classic holiday pleasures? All the food and traditions keep the house warm until everyone settles down with their dessert and cocoa. Suddenly the chill settles in and everyone just wants to feel warm and cozy. This holiday season, create a welcoming environment for your guests with soft down pillows and convenient down throw blankets in eye-catching colors.
Choose holiday colors or colors that match your décor. Cover the puffy pillows with coordinating cases in soft fabrics such as flannel. Add a few down throw blankets so guests feel comfortable to grab one if they get chilly. Use a blanket rack to hold the throws or place them over the backs of chairs and sofas for easy access.
If the children will be playing in their bedrooms or playroom, make sure to toss a few down pillows and throws in with them. After a day of opening toys and playing with family, the kids always love to settle down in a warm, cuddly environment.
This Christmas, add an extra touch of joy to the holiday by decorating your home with beautiful down pillows and throw blankets. Keep them around until New Year’s Eve for all the guests that wind up staying overnight.

Let’s face it, nobody wants to have a sleepover at their house with a group of overexcited tweens. However, as parents it seems to be an inevitable rite of passage we all have to endure. Of course nobody will get to sleep – especially mom and dad. After all, without your watchful eyes your kids will be surfing to disallowed websites, watching bad movies, having members of the opposite sex over…heaven only knows!
Give tweens a reason to have fun and get to sleep by putting out plenty of puffy down pillows. During the beginning and middle of the night, the tweens can get all their energy out having a pillow fight. How can you have a real pillow fight with stiff, unyielding foam pillows? The soft pliability of down pillows makes them absolutely perfect for the most animated pillow fights. As the feathers fly, everyone will forget banned pursuits because they’re having so much fun.
Once the group is exhausted from pillowing fighting and picking up scattered feathers, they can sink into the pillows for a good night’s sleep. Who knew a few simple pillows could entertain a group of tweens and help them (and you!) get some much-needed sleep?

Everyone loves to receive a puffy, warm down comforter for Christmas. In the middle of winter, nothing is more cozy and comforting than luxurious down bedding. If you are fortunate enough to receive a down comforter this year, how to you keep it clean and store it during the warmer weather?
Cleaning a down comforter is usually as easy as putting it in your washing machine and dryer. You will find washing instructions on a tag sewn onto the down comforter. While most down blankets can be washed at home in your machine, it may not always be a wise idea. If you have a queen or king size down comforter, it may be best to wash it in a commercial size washing machine and dryer at a laundromat. You can even choose to bring your down bedding to a professional dry cleaner.
When the cold weather slips away and warmer days arrive, you will want to store your down safety for the first fall chill. Keep your down bedding a dry place that is also well-ventilated. Put the comforter in a breathable bag such as cotton so mildew does not form. Plastic bags will trap moisture and are not breathable.
With proper cleaning and storage, your beautiful down comforter will be warm and welcoming for years to come!

When you’ve been married for over ten years, it gets more difficult to buy presents for holidays and birthdays. After all, who really wants to give another bauble or novelty that will be forgotten by next year? I told my husband to purchase practical items but he still refuses to buy blenders for Christmas.
Last year, a large package was waiting under the tree for me on Christmas morning. I wondered what it could be. It certainly didn’t look like jewelry or candy. I shook it but it didn’t make a sound and it wasn’t really that heavy. I tore open the wrapping with anticipation. Inside the red and green tissue paper was a soft, puffy down throw blanket in a soft sage color.
I wrapped the down around my shoulders and gave my husband an enthusiastic hug and kiss. He smiled and asked if he was right that something practical could be luxurious and personal, too. Alright, when you’ve been married for more than a decade you have to admit the other person is right once in awhile. This time my husband found the perfect Christmas gift. This year I’m going to return the favor and buy him a down throw blanket of his own to use while we snuggle by the fireplace.
