If you long to sink into a luxurious sleep, you need a down feather bed to give you the ultimate comfort.  It goes right on top of your mattress and under your fitted sheet to create a welcomingly cushiony oasis.   A feather bed invites you for a restful sleep every night. How do you choose the right down feather bed?

There are three basic types of down feather beds.  A baffle box has a square quilted construction for little shifting of the feathers.  A baffle channel has rectangular tubes for minimal movement.  Traditional featherbeds are simply a bag of feathers that move around freely.  Typically baffle box construction is the most expensive and the traditional feather beds cost the least.

The ticking holds the feathers in.  This outer covering should be made from cotton with a high thread count so few feathers leak out.   A high thread count also means the ticking is soft.  Select a feather bed at least 6 to 8 inches thick to get the comfortable softness you want.

The right feather bed gives you the restful night’s sleep you always dreamed of.

Now that you have a decadent down comforter, how do you keep it clean and puffy? Whether you have a windowpane down comforter with sewn-through boxes or a single constructed down comforter, there are simple ways to keep them looking and feeling great.

Shake out your down blankets, comforters and pillows everyday to give them proper fullness. When you strip your bed, fluff your featherbed. You can also tumble dry your down bedding for five or so minutes to bring it back to life.

Protect your down comforter with a duvet and your down pillows with pillowcases. Refresh your bedding by frequently washing the duvet and pillowcases while you shake out and air your down items.

Gentle machine washing with mild dish detergent can be used to clean down bedding. Many down enthusiasts prefer to have their down bedding professionally dry cleaned. Either method will get your down bedding clean and refreshed.

Did you also know down comforters can last for decades? There is no set time for down spoilage. If you take good care of your down bedding, it will keep you warm and happy for a lifetime.

5fthrbed1-25in.jpgResearcher are still finding out just how important it is to get a good night’s sleep, for your overall good health. Getting enough rest helps the growth of new cells, reduces stress and clears the mind and body. This is where a featherbed comes into play, it’s so comfortable that the benefits of sleeping on one are something to consider. It traps body heat in, so in the winter time you’ll save on your energy bill. While in the summer months the circulation of air through its lofts will help keep you cool. 5pillowtop-dd-2for-homepage-featherbed2.JPGFeather beds are common in other parts of the world, but are fairly new to the United States. As the word states “feather beds”, well the beds were made of feathers. Today’s feather beds are made of polyester, down, feathers, or a combination of feathers and down. The modern style of feather bed is usually 4 to 5 inches thick and stitched in channels or a baffle box design. With all of this cushion even an old mattress will feel soft and cuddly. In order to protect your feather bed you’ll need a featherbed cover. But still you’ll need to do a few things to keep it looking new. You’ll need to shake out the feather bed every couple of weeks, turn it over, and rotate it like a regular mattress. I hope this information has been helpful. Sleep Down Comforters would love to here from you anytime.

featherbed-page.jpgI guest it’s time to go back to school soon. Well a nice new featherbed would work great on that old stiff dorm mattress or that furished apartment mattress. It is no telling who has slept on those mattresses, but with that new feather bed it really doesn’t matter. When you do get that nice featherbed, please don’t forget to get a featherbed cover, to protect that featherbed while you are in school. If you take care of your new featherbed, it will last a very long time, just clean the cover once in while and shake your bed off a little bit and you are all set to go. And remind everybody that you got your featherbed at Sleepy Down Comforter.
