goose-v.JPGOver the years differents studies have been done to determine why the geese fly in this particular formation. It has been determined that the geese flying in this formation have a lower heart rate and are able to fly farther with less effort than if they were to fly solo. The one that is in the lead encounters the most wind resistance and thus will tire more quickly. When he needs to rest, he will drop back into formation and another will move up to the lead position. The ones at the back have the same problem. So they move up to the middle when they need to rest. In time, each of the geese has the opportunity to lead and enjoy the ease of the middle position as well. They reach their destination more quickly and don’t tire so easily.  By working together, they all benefit.
